Looking at Art:

Painting subway cars in New York city allows your art to be seen by an unlimited audience while it travels. Apparently, the danger involved in painting these trains makes it even more exciting for young graffiti artists. In the New York Times, an article about the deaths of two young men who came all the way from France to paint NYC subway cars ended in their deaths. Their bodies were found after having been hit by an oncoming train. Spray cans in their pockets were unused. The article blew me away. I never imagined that graffiti could be such a serious art form. Would you risk your life for your passion?

In my series of paintings of musicians, I have tried to capture their concentration and passion for their music. The challenge of portraiture is attempting to show more than the appearance of the subject. Perhaps this is why I find it forever intriguing. The Bass Player is my latest portrait.
