Looking at Art:

There is an entire genre of art called history painting. However, if an artist’s work is a product of their time, perhaps all art is documentation of our history. When I was teaching college art history, it struck me that the two survey courses were a study of historical and cultural change without the emphasis on wars, which separates the content from traditional history courses.

Work in the Studio:

When our nation’s capital was invaded by domestic terrorists encouraged by our own president, I was shocked. I had always believed that the violent domestic groups involved were very small, unthreatening fringe organizations. The president’s involvement and the lead up to this event made me reassess the assumptions I have held for a very long time. How did all of this make you feel? The painting shown here is a response to my feelings about these events.
