Looking at Art:

In 1520 the artist, Titian, painted Man with a Glove, an incredibly famous oil on canvas which is in the collection of the Louvre in Paris. Although it is a portrait, the sitter is unknown, yet the image is very compelling since most of the canvas is black, hiding all but the man’s face, a small bit of his white shirt and his hands. His left gloved hand is holding his other glove. I have always loved this painting because so little is revealed to us viewers. His approach adds a certain mystery to the painting.

Work in the Studio:

In the painting you see here, I have attempted to reveal only enough of what is going on in the scene to invite viewers to imagine the story behind the image. The color choice is meant to be similar to old tin type photography. Do you think that showing less in a work of art makes it more enticing?
