Is fashion art?

Looking at Art:

In 2017, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, held an exhibition of clothing by the Japanese fashion designer, Rei Kawakubo who is known for her avant-guarde designs. The museum built special installation areas for each part of the show giving the exhibition the look of a series of theatrical stages. Many of the pieces looked as much like sculpture as clothing and it was difficult to imagine how some of them could be worn by a human being. There was no question in my mind that I was looking at art. Do you think of clothing as art?

 Work in the Studio:

There was a time when sweaters were either cardigans or pull-overs. Then a kind of sweater started to appear in stores that draped the body in new ways. Since my art is often about the human figure, these sweaters inspired me. The wall sculpture shown here is called “Dancing Sweater” because of the way it covers the figure while revealing its shape.
