Looking at Art:

A recent article in the New York Times addressed the changing art display in the oval office selected by each president. Each leader displays portraits of people they admire. President Biden’s choice of portrait busts is particularly telling. He has a sculpture head of Franklin D. Roosevelt who, during a national crisis, introduced unprecedented, ambitious legislation. He also has a bust of Martin Luther King, Cesar Chavez, the labor leader and Rosa Parks, the civil rights activist.

I wonder if the art you display in your home reflects your choices in life. I know that some people will select art that has colors to match their home décor, but good art is so much more than pretty colors. Is there a connection between what you have around you every day and your personality, the way you think and how you feel about your world?

Work in the Studio:

My art collection used to be much larger, including art by artist friends as well as my own. I’ve had to pare down the collection since we downsized in our move, but our house is full of the art that brings pleasure and is what I consider to be my finest work. Some pieces that I have made about issues are also on display. The sculpture shown here was made before conspiracy theories were in vogue and started to make me scratch my head, but it represents a rather universal concept. It is part of a series of wall sculptures including faces, some of which have been featured in the blog.
