Is every child an artist?

Looking at Art:

Pablo Picasso said, ““Every child is an artist; the problem is staying an artist when you grow up”. In his art, Picasso strove to have the freshness of a child’s drawing. While I was teaching art to elementary school children, I was particularly amazed by the work of kindergarteners. They would put colors and shapes together creating unselfconscious beauty. One child who made a large amorphous poster painting could not understand why I didn’t recognize his subject. He explained that it was a painting of god. Do you think most adults have lost their inner artist?

Work in the Studio:

When my sons were young, I used to read them bedtime stories. Kids love animals and so nature is often an important part of every children’s book. Their response to the tales made the reading fun for me. This sculpture is about the magic of reading to children. The deer represents nature in the story. The two faces represent imagination on one side and fascination on the other. Can you tell which is which?
