Looking at Art:

The Australian feminist comedian, Hannah Gadsby, co-curated an exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum on view in June. The show calls out Picasso for his misogyny and the comedian makes light of the great master’s art including images of women. There are works by feminist artists also on view. A review in Time Out suggests that the exhibition’s main message is that our view of heroes in art has changed. Another review of the show in the New York Times presents a very different view point indicating that we must think seriously about modern art and gender, and that this show does not dignify the museum or the artists in it. Is the idea behind “It’s Pablo-matic” a brilliant concept about our view of contemporary art, or is it the museum’s attempt to use a celebrity comedian and marketing to draw visitors into the museum. Work in the Studio:

I have been trying to bring emotion into my watercolor paintings. My intention is to connect with the viewer in a new way. Striving for expressive, emotional images is a far cry from trying to produce paintings which are above all, technically excellent. The self-portrait you see here is my latest attempt.
